early: be at work to be finished early
11:00 a.m.--doctor's appointment for annual (sort of) physical
3:00 p.m.--dentist appointment for semi-annual cleaning. I'm pretty sure this will result in more appointments as a tooth has been giving me problems.

Dinner
Great dinner deal tonight. A local restaurant had a $9.99 prime rib special before 6:00 p.m. We ordered that, but the manager came by and said they were out of prime rib and gave us a $5 coupon to use. We ordered other meals.
When the bill came, Renae's dinner and both our drinks were on my bill and rung up on my card. My dinner was on her bill and rung up on her card. No $5 off was on either slip. The server apologized and said she'd take care of it. The slips came back with $5 off, but I was still paying for two drinks and a higher priced meal. She and another server worked on it, but it came back wrong again. I was a bit worried about how many times a charge would show up on my credit card bill. Finally the server got the manager involved. He worked at the register for a few minutes, came over, and said, "Thanks for your patience tonight. We're sorry for the confusion; you're dinner is taken care of."
It was the server's first night, and I think the $5 coupon got her flustered. They didn't expect a large turnout for the special and the manager said he wouldn't have had her on the floor had he known. Except for not charging us correctly, which we didn't mind in the long run, the server did a really nice job for her first night.

Work Project
This is a project I got to be part of at work recently. It was fun to be doing something totally different from my daily work, and I got to be part of a good cause as well.
In general, fun.

First Project of the Summer
Last week I "inherited" a patio set as shown in the picture on the right. Seven cans of spray paint with some sanding and a refurbished umbrella the project is finished on the right. I think I'll really enjoy my patio now--reading the paper with a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning, cookouts with friends, etc.
As Renae said in the middle of painting it, "We like projects."

Are You Lonely Today?
I'm a bit lonely at work today. Of 10 people in my department 5 are on vacation, 1 doesn't work on Friday, and one is wah (work at home). All 4 people in my aisle are out.

Blizzard
This morning I saw a commercial that the DQ Blizzard is 25 years old. I remember sometime during the summer (must have been at Ann's wedding) my Aunt Alice talking about this new treat at DQ. Lines stretched down the block at the Morton DQ, an old DQ with only outside service and seating, and people were just "clear crazy" for a Blizzard.
When I moved to Morton on August 11, Mary and I drove down Main St. and sure enough there was a long line at the DQ. I think we asked Uncle Keith and Aunt Alice to meet us there and we tried our first DQ blizzard.
My favorite flavor is either Snickers or cookies 'n cream. What is yours?

Friday
I've spent the afternoon attempting to grade the final work for a class I completed on Wednesday. The next group starts on Monday so I need to get this done, but I'm sitting at a table looking out over Renae's back yard--the pond with ducks and geese. It's been hard to stay focused, but it is done!!!
Bring on the 70s next week.

Thankful Thursday
1. I had not one but two families invite me for Easter dinner. One was Saturday night and one was Sunday.
2. This is The Master's week. The only thing better would be watching it with family at the beach.
3. Extra work at Cornerstone even though it means three trips there next week!
4. Good friends to watch the women's basketball championship with on Tuesday night even if the game didn't go my way.

I Won, I Won, I Won
I won the men's NCAA tournament bracket in my department at work. Only about half of the people entered, but I stopped a two-year win streak of a co-worker. It all came down to a tie-breaker with her. The final score I guessed had an absolute difference less from the actual score than the score she guessed.
Whatever it takes.

Good Friday
Yesterday seemed like Friday to me. Maybe I like the four day weeks and felt as if Thursday should be it for the week, I don't know. I kept thinking it was not just Friday but Good Friday as well. I thought about how we used to get Good Friday as a holiday until my second year at HMI. At lunch I thought about a church I pass that is having their Good Friday service 12:00-1:00 p.m.
But then I thought about trying to schedule a baseball game when I was in Ohio. The opponent was a small Christian school near Cincinnati that wasn't in our league and I don't know that we had played before. In trying to come up with a mutually good date, their AD suggested whatever date was Good Friday. Since he just gave the date and it was open on my scheduler I agreed and then said I needed to look at another calendar. When I told him that we couldn't play that day since it was Good Friday, he went into a nearly 5 minute tirade as to why we should set aside Good Friday because that wasn't the actual day Jesus died. They believed he was in the tomb 3 full days so Jesus had to die on Wednesday instead of Friday. My reply: "OK, but we still aren't going to play on that day."

Thankful Thursday
1. Tonight we remember Christ's time in the Upper Room with the disciples.
2. Tomorrow night we remember that Jesuss surrender to the cross means the penalty of my sin has been paid.
3. Sunday we celebrate that Jesus is risen!
