Thankful Thursday 12/30/10

Where to begin?

1. What a wonderful time with family over the holidays.
2. Making heavenly hash again for the family, and it turning out well.
3. Seeing Jeffrey inhale the heavenly hash dessert.
4. Playing lots of games with family even if it was Rummikub and I lost a gazillion times.
5. Getting Chik-fil-a with Mary Lee.
6. Watching JM and Jeffrey build a couple of snowmen.
7. A backrub from Mary--she's the best!
8. No issues on my flight.
9. Two weekdays free before heading back to work on Monday. I'm getting stuff done but not on a time schedule to do so.

Springerles

This cartoon was in the paper the day I baked springerles. I used my grandmother's recipe.

You either love them or don't. Nobody seems to be really neutral about springerles.

Thankful Thursday 12/23/10

1. Today is my last full day of work for the year!
2. Weather forecast for tomorrow looks really, really good.
3. Surprise running into (well actually running all around the store trying to catch up to her) Jayne from Handbells at the grocery store yesterday.
4. Getting to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ, with family.
5. Getting the University of Alabama fight song as a ringtone as a reminder to my co-worker who is rooting for Michigan State that AL is going to win.

Love

Here is what one boy answered when asked what love is:

Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.
Bobby - age 7 (wow!)

Recently I was told that if you have one Norman Rockwell moment during the holidays enjoy it.

So sit back and listen when you're opening presents.

Christmas Prep

I've officially hit the mark of , "OK, I wanted to do this, but I think I just won't get it done."

Another Late Thankful Thursday and Other Stuff

I haven’t forgotten Thankful Thursdays and although I often make a list, I just can’t get it put on-line. Then on Fridays I think about various things that have occurred during the week that includes things for which I’m thankful.

1. This is the second year I’ve lead the Finance holiday gift giving project. I’m thankful I can be on the giving side.

2. Today while enjoying Christmas music on Pandora, I heard Third Day’s “Merry Christmas”, and I’m reminded of two old friends who have gone to Africa and Eastern Europe to bring home new members of their families this year. I also think of another couple who are raising money to go get their child in Ethiopia. I’m so thankful for families who reach out to the 147 million orphans around the world.

3. Today at lunch I went outside to run errands and my car was gone. Yes, it was not in the place I parked this morning. Then I remembered that while I had pulled into that space first thing this morning, I didn’t have my badge to get in the door and no one was pulling into my parking lot so I had to go park in the front lot so I could go in an open door. Thankfully at lunch I had my badge so I could go back in and through the building to get to my car and not have to walk all around the building. Hmmm, early senior moment?

4. I don’t like it when people say they don’t like Christmas music! Yes, there is some I like less than the rest, but Christmas music is happy and reminds me of the good and fun of Christmas.

5. One week from today “if the Lord’s willing and the creek don’t rise” (or for Michigan “and there isn’t a snowstorm”) I’ll be in Atlanta with family right now. Love it!!!

6. Comment I overheard this week: “I hope Santa is as good to you as he is to your children!”

7. Enough rambling on.

The Week in Short Review

What has made this a good week?

1. An outing with Jayne from Handbells on Monday night.
2. Finally selling an item on e-bay that I've had for way too long and no one bid on before.
3. Anticipating my annual pumpkin pancake breakfast tomorrow morning.
4. I actually made progress cleaning out my back bedroom.
5. Getting to volunteer at a Women At Risk activity last night.

Little Things That Make the Week Better

Some of the enjoyable things of the past week:

1. Reading the blog of a couple from central IL who have spent this week in Bulgaria picking up their new daughter. I've known Bill(y) since he was about 5 and to read about his love for this little girl and how he interacts with her is very interesting.
2. Going to the Michael Buble concert.
3. Putting up Christmas decorations at my home.
4. The month end corrections and adjustments I had to do were not because I made a mistake.
5. Getting to talk to my sister when she was on U.S. soil even though I won't see her until Dec. 26.
6. Making Christmas chocolates with a friend from work.
7. Enjoying the hot tub at a friend's house.
8. Christmas stations on Pandora radio.
