Funniest comment I heard this week when a group member told a leader that it was good to see him after the leader returned from vacation.
The group leader said, "Well it's good to be seen rather than viewed."

My Take on Paula Deen and Her Sponsors
I have never been a Paula Deen fan. In fact when visiting Savannah last fall with my mother I really had no desire to go to her restaurant which apparently is like going to NYC and not wanting to see the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty.
I think she has said some stupid things in her career. We all have. However, she marketed herself as a big character and wanted a big stage so her mistakes and wrongs play out there as well.
My bigger question is to her sponsors who are dropping her so quickly. Has the Food Network vetted all of its personalities for their past comments? Does Target, who is "assessing" their relationship with Deen, sell any music or movies with the "n" word included? Both questions apply to QVC.
When one makes themselves big, they fall hard. However, a fall always has a path to redemption. Maybe Deen needs to be out of the public eye, but so do the musicians and actors who say exactly what she has said.

Thankful Thursday
1. Attending a local church's early Friday morning prayer support group for those looking for work the last two weeks has been very good for me.
2. The first week one of the leader's gave me a contact at a local organization that I was going to later in the day to turn in an application. I was able to meet her and get some information about the position and school.
3. The next week a participant wanted to introduce me to a contact at a different organization. I went to his ABF on Sunday morning and met another lady who knew the contact. Then the contact from #2 was in the same class and came to talk to me.
4. Several participants have been in touch this week, and I know they are praying for me.
5. Big cookout plans for several neighbors on Saturday night.
6. Air conditioning at home and in the car. I was in college before I found out not everyone has air in their car and almost 20 years ago found out not everyone in MI has a/c in their homes. I was shocked when I moved to MI how many people still don't have a/c and don't want it.
7. New dishwasher installed on Saturday.

Today 6/3/13
What made me smile today:
I went to a baseball game and a father with 2 boys was sitting about 3 rows ahead of us. During the national anthem he made sure they stood still. After smacking one on the head to be quiet, the father then motioned the boy to follow his example and put his left hand over his upper right chest.
I guess it's the thought that counts.

Today
Watched a little girl who was probably a young 3 with her father in Lowe's. She was carrying a plunger that was about 2 inches shorter than she was, a hook which I thought was dangerous to give a kid, and a bag of unopened Doritos. It was all she could do to keep hold of everything. She was oblivious to anyone around as she sauntered following her father to the checkout. She was enjoying seeing anything at her eye level--the Energizer bunny on a display, the big keys pictured on the key maker--and made a comment about everything she saw to no one.
Her father kept turning around, "Laura, come on."
"OK."
"Laura, hurry."
"OK."
"Come on, Laura."
"I'm coming."
She reminded me of a niece and I smiled.
